Every day, we go about with our lives and deal with whatever happens in the present. When the day is over, we would rest and sometimes make preparations to tackle tomorrow. Anything that has already happened will be of no concern to us unless they have the potential to haunt us later down the road. Well, what happens if you wake up to the same day repeatedly and have to put up with the same events that occurred then?
It will prove quite a challenge for anyone to adapt themselves in a time loop given the fact that we have grown accustomed to the flow of time. Instead of waking up to a brand new day filled with surprises, you’re stuck with reliving the same moments. You’d be lucky if you were able to spend an eternity in a day that meant a lot to you. But even if you were, will you not get bored of doing the same thing for the rest of your life?
As Science has proved, time will always be moving. Therefore, time loops are only fictional occurrences. But let’s say it happens regardless, the world would be unaware of it except for maybe a few people. Normally, it’s just a single person that will notice the change. This individual would be the only one capable of not repeating his/her actions. Since this person is aware of this, the world will somewhat revolve around him/her. This person would be the ‘main character’.
If you find yourself in such a circumstance, what would you do? I mean, you’ve experienced the day before. Would you continue to act like everything is normal, or would you take advantage of the situation? Would you do whatever you please knowing you do not have to face the consequence of your actions when the day resets? Or would you try to break the time loop?
A wise man once said that everything happens for a reason. If you stop and think why you are in a time loop, you might figure out how to escape it. In the movie Groundhog Day, the protagonist is a selfish person and could not care less for the people around him. When he found himself living in a day that constantly resets, he was confused. After a while, he tried taking advantage of this, but eventually got depressed as he cannot find a way to end the time loop. After having a change of heart, however, he started to use this as a chance to help as many people as he can in the town he’s in. Fortunately, after redeeming himself (and winning the heart of the woman he loves), he was able to wake up to the following day rather than repeat the cycle.
If time loops were real, I think when it happens to a person, it gives that person a second chance to fix his/her mistakes. Or to save another person’s life.
I don’t know what I would do if I had to experience one. Sure, I love dwelling in the past sometimes. Maybe living in eternity with your family without growing up isn’t such a bad thing. However, deep down inside, I know it’s not right. Staying still in time means that I cannot make any progress. I have to move forward and face my future head-on. So, I will try my best to break the loop. I’m sure the only way for me to escape this is to make a hard decision that is sure to affect my life. But if it gives me the ability to live my life without looking back, then so be it.
What about you? What would be your course of action?
